Uninvolved? A Closer Look at Syrian Parental Involvement
ABSTRACT: The recent influx of Syrian families into Canada draws attention to the supports required for student success. Parental involvement is one of the key components in securing students’ academic achievement. Parents connect with their child’s school differently depending on where they live. This paper will analyze the factors which influence parental involvement for Syrian parents. Interviews with two Syrian families provide voice and a new perspective on what can be done to improve programs and practices for Syrian students in our schools.
